Description
High-voltage generator for electron microscope. Laboratory worker grounding a million-volt electrostatic generator being used for high-voltage electron microscopy. In the 1960s, a second generation of electron microscopes was developed, with the higher voltages allowing examination of thicker samples. The electron microscope itself is not seen here. This electrostatic generator and its associated electron microscope is being used in a metallurgical research laboratory for the iron and steel industry. Photographed at the United States Steel Research Center, Monroeville, Pennsylvania, USA. Photographed in the USA in the period from 1950 to 1970.
